Lunqian Village, Lunbei Township, Yunlin County
This place name, chioˋrhiongˋbbuˊ, was recorded in the Zhaoan Hakka dialect. Li Xingfei advised that Zhaoan dialect has six tones and, similar to other Hakka dialects, tone sandhi primarily affects the first syllable, but Zhaoan dialect also exhibits second syllable tone sandhi. In Mandarin Chinese, the suffix “zi” is often added to single-syllable nouns, but no similar suffix is used in Zhaoan Hakka. Due to the living environment and proximity to Taigi speakers, some Taigi words have entered the local lexicon. Despite this, Zhaoan dialect still retains some unique vocabulary. For example, “mom” in Zhaoan dialect is “A-yi”.
Li Xingfei also said only the older generation living in Erlun know the name Chioˋrhiongˋbbuˊ, a small settlement in Laihui Village, Erlun Township. Information is not clear on how many households were located there and older residents also are unsure. Some academics and cultural workers believe that Chioˋrhiongˋbbuˊ likely refers to Zhangcuo in Laihui Village, Erlun Township. Today only a few households remain in Zhangcuo.
