Zheng Fanpai 鄭藩派
Wukeng, Jinsha Township, Kinmen County
Zheng Fanpai was born and raised in Kinmen and is a senior historical and cultural researcher. Kinmenese Taigi, related to the Tongan Quanzhou dialect, features eight pure vowels and has two more central vowels than the dominant Taiwanese Taigi variant (er and ir) and rules governing tonal sandhi are also slightly different. Zheng Fanpai mentioned that most of the foreign loanwords used in Taiwanese Taigi are from Japanese, while in Kinmen the majority of loanwords come from Austronesian languages such as Indonesian and Malay. Even today, the language retains the history of cultural interaction experienced on Kinmen Island.
